Like I mentioned Monday, this week is Lainey week, and wow it is! I’ve been getting so many dandelion dream custom orders and then my heart leapt at Lori’s post, so instead of blogging about little Lainey I’ve been knitting and printing, and thinking about my little girl. So I guess the week will extend into next.
I skipped last month’s Africa Love post, and it seems like I’m running into all kinds of things lately that I’m excited to share about, some initiatives and some are shops. All you can support through encouragement, purchases or donations.
First, I’ve been reading a lot of africa adoption blogs lately now that we are waiting. Here are a few if you are interested, I’ll also post them on my adoption page:
Millions of Miles
Nothing Left to Paint
Love Makes a Family
Word from the Wallaces
A Moment Cherished
Polka Dots and Ric Rac
Wheels for Wells: I found this through a friend a week ago. Every 20 seconds a child dies from lack of clean water, this is tragic. There are different ways to get involved and if you are on the East Coast and have a bike, consider riding with them.
Divine Chocolate. Who doesn’t like chocolate? Well, here is a great way to help the Farmer’s in Ghana Africa. This is completely fair trade. You can often find this chocolate at a World Market or Whole Foods.
Light Gives Heat: I mentioned the above necklace in a post before, and then yesterday my friend came over carrying that gorgeous bag. Its honestly way more beautiful in person than even in this photo. You can read about their mission to to help the women of Africa here, they have individual profiles listed.
I hope these shops inspire you to do support, buy or donate. Its the little things that we do that can make a world of difference to one person! Well I’m off to finish printing and knitting.
“I am only one, but still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but still I can do something;
and because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do
something I can do.”

i am so excited for your adoption (i am an adoptive mom myself) and can’t wait to read how it unfolds. i think lainey is such a cute name, too! but i was wondering, are you friends with kelly hampton? i think i’ve seen pics of your kids on each other’s blogs. how does she about your daughters having the same names? i always find that to be such a tricky thing though in the end it shouldn’t matter. just curious.

Thanks for your encouragement Joy, I linked over to your blog & what an adventure you are on! We are excited too. And to answer your question, I’m not friends or had even visited Kelly Hampton’s blog until one other person had mentioned it. Elaine, is actually Lainey’s full name, after my mom. Chris and I debated grace and love as a middle name, after figuring out her nick-name we new that love would be perfect. You are right, naming your child should be a personal choice, not influenced by anyone else… its hard enough settling on a name between just Chris and I!

thank you erin for contributing a pocket, i’m so excited to deliver them, i know they will be so appreciated. we always bring the necessities when we visit africa, or other developing countries, things like medical and school supplies, but it’s the fun things, like the pockets i like best. (and i think the children do too!).
good luck with bringing your little girl home.
