As I’ve been organizing and cleaning the house, working towards that simplicity, I find myself getting less patient with messes. Motivated to have a clean house, and tossing aside the simple fact that with a three and five year old, that really doesn’t happen.
So, I gave myself a little talk the other day as I watched Camille make her special hide-out. I reminded myself of “imagination in action.” I reminded myself to look at these “messes” and see the imagination at work.
There really is so much, and even when little sticker papers, play-dough bits & tiny toys are strewn from one end to the other, I’m reminding myself of the creativity, the imagination and the fun that brought all of those out and created that “mess.”

I love your words about their ‘messes’. In my not so patient moments those messes drive me nuts and in my patient saintly moments they seem like little works of art : ).
I’m also working at simplifying and attempting to get my messes under control. I’m not there yet but I am finding having less ‘clutter’ of my own makes me more patient with their little piles and creations.
A very nice reminder–the “mess” is important work. But, oh, it’s so hard sometimes! You’re absolutely correct that the more we simplify, the better it is though!

A reminder that the messes are part of making memories.
