At Cami’s beach rainbow party, I gave her this box. It was really quite simple to make using a wood burning tool, a box that you can pick up from your local craft store, watercolors and beeswax polish. I sketched out the design, burned it in, painted and after all was dry: polished. I filled it with a couple of handmade things: a onesie for Ellie and a doll house dolly.
This box has been played with a ton by both of the kids. Cami uses it to store her dollhouse dollies, but also to put together little “treasures” that she gives to Noah as a surprise. Noah’s brought this out more than once to give me a “surprise” like a seashell, bow and other little treasure. I’ve got this idea saved for Noah’s birthday next year. So easy and such a hit!
If you enjoy watercolors as much as we do, I updated on my inspiration/tutorial page different watercolor projects we’ve done together.

It’s beautiful! I plan to make something like this for Michael for the end of our HS story this year where he’s gifted the vowels and reading. Should be fun!

I had a wood burning kit as a kid. I always had lots of fun burning things…including my fingers on occasion. Ouch! Too bad I didn’t save it. I could have had even more fun as a grown-up! That box is so cute. Did I tell you I copied your water-colored treasure box that Cami made for Noah’s birthday? It became the party favor/craft at Sarah’s birthday party this year. It was perfect! Michaels had them for 1$. So cute. Where did you find this interesting box? I feel like the craft store is pretty limited, but you find cool unfinished wood things. Did you make it? Also, I tried to find beeswax, but it was so expensive! 20$ for a huge chunk. I just want a little bit to polish with. Where is a good place to buy?

What a pretty box! Now I want a wood burning tool. I’ll have to add it (right after needle-felting supplies) to my ever-expanding list of craft supplies that I would like

What a beautiful treasure. My little one is just about to turn five as well. I may just try this. Thank you for the inspiration!

I love that they have taken that sweet gift and continued to use it as a way to give each other surprises. Speak volumes about the way you have loved and nurtured your kids.
And the box is awesome. You make it seem so easy to do.
