imagination in action

reading and playing
A while ago I wrote a post called playful ingenuity, talking about the “messes” that are creative ways Camille & Noah use their imagination. Well, recently those messes started to bother me. I forgot that my sweeties aren’t trying to make more work for me and the real beauty behind what they are doing. I’ve been reminded to be thankful in all things this week, even “messes”. So I’ve decided to start a photo diary of what these messes really are, which is playful ingenuity. I’ve created a flickr group for anyone else who’d like to post pictures of imagination in action happening at their house. Its also an easier way to scroll through each of the pictures instead of going through each weekly post. I think it’ll be neat to watch this grow with their age. Imagination in action will definitely change as they grow and change.

Today’s picture is what I found at the foot of the steps yesterday: blocks and books!

I can relate to what you’re saying. As someone that struggles to just let a “mess” be, I must sometimes remind myself (and other adults around me) that learning is often all about process for little ones… even if that process does require some extra scrubbing at the end of the day! ;)
I’ve joined your flickr group. What a fun way to find the beauty in these everyday “messes”! :)

You better set an upload limit. I could add a handful every day.

THIS is a FAB idea. Because, well, heh, my entire house shows “playful ingenuity” right about now.

hi erin..long time ! i came last night and had a surf here…your kids sure have grown. i had a question i was hoping you could answer.ive just gone from blogger (nestajackson.blogspot.com) to wordpress (above) and im having a bit of trouble understanding a few things. most importantly, i can see how to subscribe to blogs i like on wordpress by just clicking subscribe and they are on my read subscriptions page. but how do i still subscribe and read my blogger folk’s blogs on here? is there a way? i have them listed on my blogroll, but i have no way of knowing when they have done a new post, its just alphabetized. isnt there some way to get non wordpressers onto my subscriptions page so when i want to read blogs they are all in the same place?
this was long! sorry…hope you are well.
xlove, angelina

This is FUN. My son is really into organizing and grouping, stacking the most unusual objects, and getting them to actually balance. Little toys are strewn about the house, grouped in different ways, and I often trip over them, get upset and put everything back where *I* think they should go. This is a wonderful practice, as well as a reminder about how important unstructured, uninterrupted play is. Thank you Erin!
