One of the handmade gifts that I’ve been working on for Noah is this doll. Noah has about one stuffed monkey to his name, while Cami holds probably 10 stuffed animals or dolls in her room. While she does share pretty well with him most of the time, I thought it’d be nice if he had a few more of his very own. After making my t-shirt waldorf doll, I figured I could handle making two more for the kiddos. I bought my fabric from Weir Dolls and Crafts and they shipped pretty quickly. I bought way too much … I think I bought two yards. I followed a few of the tutorials that I did before, and few different.
Here they are:
The Body: these photos on flickr
The Head: I followed this tutorial, but if I were to it again I would machine sew the back of the head like in this tutorial, and just hand-stitch the top. It would be a lot less time consuming. However, still look at the first for more detailed photos of the rest.
For the Hair: The hair is really the most time consuming part. I knew I wanted it to look like Mandy’s, spiky and adorable. I learned a bit of crochet and followed this tutorial for stitching a chain to your doll’s head.
As you can see, I hand stitched the chain to the dolly’s head and then I used a crochet needle to loop the yarn through. After I looped it through, I pulled it tight and cut it. Here is a picture, I haven’t made his head full yet & I’m not sure how much more I’m going to do, because he looks pretty cute as is and all the stitching of the chain has been covered.
I bought some handspun yarn of of etsy, which turned out to work really nice for this project:
Now, I need to put together a little outfit (or buy one). I can’t wait to see the name Noah picks for his little guy!

He’s going to love it.
Very cute! I made my son a Waldorf doll a few years ago and had so much trouble with the hair that I ended up sewing on a hat instead. I like the way you did the hair. I want to try making another doll sometime.
Wow, what am amazing gift! I love the hair on this doll, it is just too perfect. I am sure that your little one will be thrilled.
Oh wow! I can’t wait to see the doll all dressed-up. He’s gorgeous (the doll AND your curly-haired son)!

This is great! I’d love to make something like this. I need more time in a day. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I’ve been out of commission in blog land for a bit but hope to make a comeback soon.

Lucky Noah! I love this dolls hair especially – what a beautiful creation!
Very cute. I made one for Sania a couple of years ago but he didn’t like it because he felt the hair looked like his,, they called him Kabudji. He was adorable but they seem to prefer their teddies. Maybe I should try making a little girl for them.
serendipity!! i just found your link on the magic onions, and am THRILLED! i’m going to make a dolly for my little 18 mo. old son, and yours is soooo precious! your tips will really help. thanks so much. i’ll be sure to let you know how it turns out. xo…

erin! so glad to see you stopped by my blog…thanks for visiting! just started collecting doll supplies today…i checked weir but i didn’t see the wool sheet batting i saw in the flicker tutorial. did you use that? if so, where did you find it? thanks!
hey Lindsay, I bought Weir’s eco-wool stuffing. One pound, and have enough for both of my dolls which are about 14 inches.
How wonderful Erin! I love his little doll, and I hope he does too! Sam surprised me by liking his more than Amelia does hers (very expensive Christmas gifts from their Mammy–so I really wanted Amelia to love hers too, but you know, what can you do?:) . He calls it his “little boy” and usually falls asleep with him–so precious! You are Amazing with all of your creations–go Erin go!
Your doll turned out great and that hair is so cute as is your adorable little boy
My youngest little guy was blessed to have some curly locks in his hair to and I still can’t bear to cut it short like his big brothers *grin*.
Super cute, Erin!
