I bought a needle felting ball kit for Camille and I to do together. For anyone new to felting, it came with great instructions and photos. Yesterday Cami reminded me that she was ready to do that, so we pulled out the lovely wool roving and went to work wrapping its pieces into a ball. We kept wrapping and wrapping, needling here and there to keep it all together. When it came time to embellish with the red, I just loved seeing her face focused on her work.
After she had finished embellishing it, we did a little wet felting to finish it. It turned out beautifully, and was definitely the perfect beginner’s project.

I like this one!
Do you know if this felting stuff would be safe for, say, a baby to put in his mouth?
yep Liz, see Leah’s comment. I think Adam would love a little felted ball.
Oh I’ve been wanting to try this with Bayliss. Your project came out so beautiful!
I’ve never tried felting…but it looks so cool. Looks like a good weekend project that The Offspring could get into. maybe make into Christmas ornaments? Easy gift idea?
how cute, it turned out great! Thanks for sending me pregnancy wishes, fingers crossed:)
she’s a natural! I sooo love needlefelting:)
I sent your package out a few days ago…you should get it soon:) xoxoxooxox
The kids are loving your felted playscape Rebecca.
I love felting! I once made a set of Santas — they looked a little demented. But it was fun. The scary part was the needle. That ball turned out wonderful.
Yes Jodi, Cami was a little scared of the needle. She accidentally poked herself once. So I had to show her how to keep her little fingers clear. Now she’s got it down.
What a great post! I love the photos. Camille has so much concentration in her eyes.
In answer to Liz’s question, the felted balls are safe for babies. Once wet felted, it would be difficult for a child to bite any chunks out of the ball. They will probably not like the texture on their tongue. There is something about licking wool that makes most people gag.
Beautiful!
She loved it I can tell
I would love to look for something like this for my Gabi too
xoxo
I like that look of concentration that kids get when they’re really absorbed in something good. Camille did a great job on her first project! I remember that my daughter was a little nervous to work with a felting needle initially.
That really IS a great project! I’ll have to be on the lookout for a similar kit, because I’m longing to try needle felting with my little kiddos, too.
